  Question: What are the requirements for proficiency in Mandarin Chinese?

  Answer: A candidate shall attend the Test of Proficiency in Mandarin Chinese that is jointly organized by the education authorities and State Language Affairs Commission of the PRC, and shall attain a score of Grade-II B (or above) specified by the Grades in the Test of Proficiency in Mandarin Chinese. Any person who has attended the Test of Proficiency in Mandarin Chinese and attained a score will hold a valid Certificate of Putonghua (Mandarin Chinese) Proficiency Test that is issued by State Language Affairs Commission. The above requirements are not applicable to a person who was born before January 1st, 1954, is employed as an Associate Professor by a college, or holds a Doctor’s degree.
